any refresh of a live service game is a tall ask - players are used to what they know and those memorised affordances that already exist. refreshing matchmaking - a core component of among us - was challenging but seeing the huge improvement to usability & visual congruity with the rest of the game was extremely rewarding.

adhering to the new style guide i established when i joined the team, we set about making this central feature clearer to understand, more visually interesting (everyone loves the beans!) and where possible, for the interface to extend the universe of the game.

the biggest challenge was coming up elegant solutions that had to be simultaneously deployed across many different platforms and aspect ratios while respecting/maintaining a small download size.

as the title is cross-platform, creating platform-relevant ui icons was something often required, especially important for passing platform checks. as part of the art team, i also occasionally subbed in to draw some of the cosmicube (currency) icons, which i particularly enjoyed.
